| Ikat is a technique of weaving that uses a tie-dye process on either the warp or weft before the threads are woven to create a pattern or design. It is a very ancient way of creating designs in fabric by resist-dyeing the threads before the fabric is woven. Traditional Uzbeki ikat cottons are often indigo-dyed in lively and engaging motifs representing the village life and beliefs of the people. Modern Uzbek ikats in silk and cotton are brightly colored with good imported chemical or natural dyes. | |||
